My name is Sam.
I was born in Los Angeles in 1978. I live in Los Angeles with my wife, Stephanie, my daughter, Vesper and my son, Flynn.
I played bass in Phantom Planet for 15 years. We toured all over the world with loads of amazing bands and released four full length albums on three major labels. Currently taking a much needed break, but we’ll get back at it again.
In between tours, back in 2000, I learned protools and began recording bands and artists, starting with Adam Levine, my roommate and longtime friend. Kara’s Flowers were in the process of becoming Maroon 5. New songs, new sound, so I helped out. Lots of late nights in my little back house Digi 001 studio set up, recording and laughing our asses off.
Loads of friends came by to work with me at the MCP, my studio, named after my obsession with Tron. Phantom Planet, the Like, Ry Cuming, Jenny Lewis and loads more recorded there. (more like made some noise and I tried to capture it). Some of the most fun I’ve ever had recording was in this house. I had no idea what I was doing, and had to figure out how to create sounds from scratch using very primitive gear. So fun, but after three years, the house mates disbanded, and I moved in with Steph. I set up another studio in one of our bedrooms, and continued on . . .
My AllMusic Discography has most of the music I’ve worked on, so please click on it and enjoy.
